Awards: My First Blog Award ^^

This is my first ever blog award, and it comes from the beautiful Jiawa of Closet Voyage! Thanks so much Jiawa! I feel so honoured :)

Here are the rules:

1) Make a post doing the following:

- Say thank you to the person who gave you this award
- Write about the person who gave you this award
- Write about yourself
- Give this award to 9 fellow bloggers
- Leave them a message letting them know that they've received the award

2) Use this banner award on your side bar

I've already thanked Jiawa, but I want to say that she's an extremely friendly blogger who updates very often, and she has the most beautiful hair colour!! I've always wanted to go that shade!!

I don't really have a lot to say about myself. I just want to thank everyone who's ever read my posts and commented! It makes blogging feel so much more worthwhile <3

I'd like to pass this award on to the following bloggers (I'm aware there aren't 9):

And I know that Bibi's taking a break from blogging, but I want to award her anyway, and to remind her that we're waiting for her to come back to the blogging community!

Once again, thanks Jiawa!!

NOTW: First water marbling attempt!

This was just after I removed the tape, so please excuse the messiness! I quite like my middle and little finger :P I found it so hard to get a good pattern! I don't get how people can get such a consistent pattern through all their nails!

I used Barry M Nail Paints in Coral, Cyan Blue, and Cobalt Blue.

Have you tried water marbling nail art before?

Review: Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub

I'd been using the Biore Facial Scrub (pictured below) for a while, so when I ran out of it, I went out to see what else I could get. I got this one from Hong Kong, so I didn't expect to be able to find the same one over here.

I picked this up from Superdrug a few months ago for about £3 - I don't remember the exact price, but it was on offer, so I decided to try it out. I figured it would be the same as the Asian version.

Description:

'Now your pores can breathe a sigh of relief with Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub. This gentle deep pore cleansing scrub with salicylic acid gently lifts away dead skin cells and cleanses away pore-clogging dirt and oil. Perfect to use everyday to leave your skin looking radiant and fresh.'

It also claims to be:

- Dermatologically tested
- Hypo-allergenic
- Non-pore clogging
- Gentle enough for everyday use

My thoughts:

The very first time I used this, I squeezed out what I used to with the 'Asian' version of the scrub. Little did I know that this was way too much product - I find the formula quite concentrated, and although there was a refreshing menthol feel, it started to burn my face. I had to wash it off immediately. Compared to the Biore Scrub from Hong Kong, the new one did not make my face feel tight after use.

With further use, I finally got the amount right, and I can now say I am a big fan of this scrub. One of the biggest things I like is the minty smell and the fact that it's oil free. The scrub feels refreshing and the micro-beads do a good job at getting rid of dead skin cells, but I don't find it good for unclogging pores. However, it definitely does live up to its claim of leaving your skin looking 'fresh and radiant'. Also, make sure you don't rinse your face with water that's too cold. Near the start of the year, the ice cold tap water made it so painful to use this minty scrub because I'd wince every time I had to rinse my face! XD

I feel that I should mention my disagreement with the claim that it can be used daily. First off, I feel like you should only use scrubs twice a week anyway because it's too harsh, but the fact that this scrub is menthol-y + salicylic acid causes it to dries out the skin with frequent use. I only use this once a week because it dries out my cheeks pretty badly if I use it more than that.

I quite like that it's in a squeeze tube because it makes it easy to get the right amount, and the fact that it's translucent packaging means that you can easily see how much product is left. The only bad thing I'd say about it is that it's difficult to read the text because both the product and the text are basically the same colour, and it's so difficult to make sure no micro beads get into your hair line! I've actually stopped using it at the sink because of it - I use it in the shower now :P

See what I mean about the text?

Aside from all of my negative complaints, I do love this as a keep-acne-and-dead-flakey-skin-at-bay solution :)

Price: Around £5

Packaging: Hygienic, easy to use, handy squeeze tube with text that is difficult to make out due to same colour product

Place: You can get it at any drug store e.g. Superdrug or Boots

Positive: Nice scent, refreshing, makes skin look brighter, does a good job at dead skin removal, hygienic packaging, oil free

Negative: Hard to read text on packaging, has a scent (if you can't take scented products), dries out skin with frequent use, not suitable for daily use, micro beads can get a bit messy

Final mark: 4/5

Verdict: I'm not sure that I would repurchase this for the original price of £5, but that's probably cos I'm quite a cheapo. I would definitely repurchase it if it was on offer though, because apart from drying out my skin when I used to use it too often, I do really find this scrub awesome :)

Daily Life: Last Ever Exam & A Special Birthday

WARNING: Extremely wordy post ahead.

Firstly, I want to thank everyone who gave me their opinions on my last post!! I think I'll be keeping the beige ones :) Thanks for letting me know exactly what you thought of them! I like honesty :P

As I mentioned in my last post, I've finally finished all my exams!! I really hope it's my last exam ever - it went really badly so I'm just hoping that I scrape a pass so I won't have to resit it ><

Anyways, the day of my last exam fell on my birthday. I didn't plan to do anything on my birthday because the exam period always means that celebrating is difficult, so this year I decided to just take it as another day. The most I was planning to do was to go out with a friend for a spot of shopping. I totally did not expect the day to pan out in the way that it did, and I'm so grateful for every single person who wished me a Happy Birthday.

Okay, so here's what happened.

After my Friday morning exam, I went back to my friend Carey's house where I'd left my bag and revision notes. I checked my phone and got a text from Christine asking how my exam was, so I texted her telling her how awful it went. Carey and I packed away our revision notes and decided to see if there were any movies that were worth watching instead of going shopping. Halfway through, Christine gave me a call. I picked up thinking she was calling to check that I was okay, but the main part I remember was:

C: 'Are you back in your room now?'
P: 'Oh, no. I'm at Carey's place.'
C: 'Ohh.. 'cos I thought I'd come and see you.. I'm at SB.'
P: :O 'What?! You're at SB?!! Now?!'
C: 'Yeah.'

You have no idea how surprised I was XD I knew Chu hadn't finished her exams yet, so for her to come all this way to SB to see me was so thoughtful and sweet of her! ^^ I went to collect her from the bus stop, and it turned out that she'd been waiting half an hour for me in my block because she thought I'd be going back and that she'd be able to surprise me. I felt so bad for making her wait that long without knowing!! >< After taking her to Carey's house and chatting for a bit, I told Carey I'd call her later and we left. We went back to my block, and found I had to collect a package that I'd been mailed. I hadn't ordered anything online, so I had no idea what it was. I also haven't given my address out to my friends from home, so I couldn't think of anyone who might've sent me something.

It turned out that my flat mate had sent me a birthday present all the way from Northern Ireland!! I was in shock - I didn't expect her to send me anything, let alone a huge package all the way from NI!! And look how carefully she packaged everything!!

The surprises just kept coming!! I went back to my flat with Chu after collecting the package (I hadn't opened it yet), and I told her how my room was a total mess.

I need to point out that during exam time, my room literally becomes a war zone. I lose the ability to return things to where I picked them up from. The walls get covered in paper, the table with random paper and stationery, and I just pile clothes on a chair till they fall over ><

Needless to say, I couldn't let Chu see my room in such a state XD I told her it looked like a bomb site and she offered to wait in the kitchen. I rushed in, tidied as much as I could, and then went to the kitchen to find her..

I opened the door, wondering why the TV wasn't on, and from around the corner, Christine jumped out with a cake. First I was scared cos she gave me a fright - I actually screamed XD When I realised what she was doing.. she started to sing 'Happy Birthday'. I don't even know how to express my surprise and the fact that I felt so special. If I was a teary person, I probably would've cried ><

I am so blessed to have you as a friend Chu <3 Don't ever think that you can get rid of me easily! I'm sticking to you forever! Muahahaa :P We still have to travel the world together!!

She even made me lunch!! You make me feel so loved Chubs!!

I don't know why, (Chu thought it was due to a lack of sleep - I usually stay up the whole night cramming before exams), but I had an immense stomach ache after eating. Like I'd pulled a muscle or something, and I was in pain >< I called Carey to ask if it'd be okay to go into town later (this was around 2ish), and went to lie down in my room whilst Chu revised. I was in so much pain I had to take paracetemol - I don't usually take medicine cos I feel like the more you take, the less likely it'll work in the future.

I got up around 5ish when Chu came in to tell me my sister had called me. After that, I don't really remember what happened, but Chu called her friends to come out for dinner with us :P She'd originally planned to leave after lunch, but she gave me her precious revision time to stay for the rest of the day. I called up Carey to ask about good places to eat and eventually decided on an Australian restaurant :P I thought it'd be good to try something different seeing as I'm not in Loughborough for that much longer.

We waited an age for the bus, and when we eventually got there, we waited for Carman to arrive. Then we ordered :P Kenneth and Carey arrived before us :)

Guess what we had...

Salmon!
Lamb!
Kangaroo!!

Yessss, I had kangaroo! I figured I might as well - you only live once! :P

What did it taste like? Mmm.. all I can say is, the texture is similar to beef but I think beef tastes better XD

Me and Carey :P
Carman, Chu, Me and Carey :)
Carey also got me a cake!!

I am seriously so blessed to have all these people who care for me and make me feel so loved. This is one of the best birthdays that I have ever had, even if there were only a few of us. I'm a strong believer that you don't need a huge group of friends to be happy, and I feel like Friday further proved this to me.

I just want to take this opportunity to say thank you to my parents, Sarah, Carmen, Chloe, Christine, Carey, Kenneth, Grace, Carman, Ryan, Wilson, Lap, Hing, Wendy, Liz, Rumya, Emily, and Tara.

Thank you to all of you for making such an ordinary girl feel like an absolute princess.

Random: I'm so indecisive.. Please help me choose ^^

As the title pretty much explains, I'd like to ask you guys to help me decide on something! Firstly, I want to say that I failed my no shopping ban. I finished exams yesterday and went out shopping today.. and I bought two pairs of shoes from New Look... but I only want to keep one pair!

These are the ones that I picked up today:

I got them in both colours because the black ones were on sale and I didn't want to miss out on my size.. I couldn't decide on the colour in store, so I thought I'd just return them or exchange them for something else when I eventually decide on a colour :P

I'd like to ask you guys to tell me which colour you prefer! I personally had my eyes on the brown/beige pair first (when I saw them online), but then I saw the black ones in real life and they're pretty! Thing is I'm not sure how well the brown/beige pair will match things and I have a black pair of shoe boots (pictured) that are similar ><

Please please let me know which one you like better!! It would help me out a lot :D

Thank you!!!

PS. You'll probably be seeing a lot more of these posts in the future, because I actually am THAT indecisive ><

PPS. My formspring is extremely empty and boring at the minute - come ask me questions ^^

Day 18: Interesting 30 Day Challenge

Day 18: A photo of yourself and your family
Source: ASOS
Don't worry, my family do not resemble a shoe. I can't find any family photos on my computer and I don't have time to dig around in my hard drives for one, so I'm going to skip this challenge.

I do however, want to ask about the shoe in the picture above. I linked you guys another boot in a separate post last time but they didn't have them in my size (plus they were crazy expensive), so now that these ones are on sale, I'm tempted to get them. Only thing is, I have no idea what I would wear them with. That's where you guys come in!! HELP!! I am quite bad when it comes to matching shoes with clothes. I tend to buy shoes just cos I like them without thinking if they will match things in my wardrobe.

What do you think of these? What could I pair it with if I did get them?

NOTW: Multicoloured Mini Heads

I seem to be getting really bored of my nails recently, and came across a nail tutorial on YouTube which looked pretty easy, so thought I'd give it a try. Turns out that I am awful at nail art. I used some hair pins as a dotting tool.. didn't go down too well because they were so scratchy >< here's my attempt anyway:

Loving how freaky my little finger looks XD

Day 16: Interesting 30 Day Challenge

Day 16: Your celebrity crush

Actually can't think of anyone.. I don't really like any celebrity enough :/ especially guys. I can tell you my favourite female actress? But that wouldn't be a crush.

Very pointless post. I apologise.

Random: Late Konad Discovery

I've heard loads of things about the Konad stamps for ages, but only decided to check it out today... Now I'm hooked with looking at all the different stamps and I'm really badly tempted to get some of the stamps >< I'm not going to though - I'll let this one mull for a while. (Plus I'm on a shopping ban.)

Source: www.konadnailart.com
Does anyone know if the stamping kits would still work with normal non-Konad nail polishes?

PS. I'm also tempted to experiment with marbling nail polishes ><

Day 13: Interesting 30 Day Challenge

Day 13: Your favourite musician and why?

In terms of musicians who compose and play their own music, I have four favourites.
(I know, I never seem to have just one.)

1. Joe Hisaishi (Mamoru Fujisaw)

Admittedly, I would never have discovered such a great composer if I weren't so into Studio Ghibli films. Joe Hisaishi is probably most well known for his collaborations with Hayao Miyazaki, and has composed a list of different songs for several of Miyazaki's animations. You can get a YouTube playlist of Hisaishi's work here. Of course, I couldn't pass the chance of introducing you guys to one of my favourite pieces. It comes from Spirited Away, is called 'One Summer's Day', and is one of my all time favourites:

I always feel like he can create certain emotions so freely through the piano, and it amazes me how easy he makes it look.

2. Ludovico Einaudi

I think a lot of people have probably heard Einaudi's work, but have been unaware that they belong to him. If that makes sense. 'Nuvole Bianche' is probably one of his most famous pieces:

3. Yiruma (Lee Ru-ma)

Yiruma (in my opinion) seems to be more well known in the Asian community. I had never actually heard of Yiruma, or any of his music, until I started hanging out with more Asians and sharing the music that we liked. 'River Flows In You' and 'Kiss The Rain' seem to be universal favourites, but my personal favourites are 'Moonlight' and '27. May'. 'Moonlight' was actually composed by Brian Crain, and was made famous through Yiruma's performances of this piece, so I guess that doesn't really count? '27. May' is special to me for several reasons; one is that this is my birthday, but there are other more important reasons which I won't go into.

For Yiruma, the 27th of May is an important date because it is his wedding anniversary.

You can see Yiruma's YouTube playlist here.

4. Yuki Kajiura

I was introduced to Yuki Kajiura through one song, which has become an eternal favourite of mine. Believe it or not, this song makes me want to cry.

I feel like all these composers are capable of creating and performing emotional and relevant music, which is a far cry from most of the nonsense music in the music industry today. When it comes to music, I prefer songs that you can relate to, with lyrics that make sense, or songs that actually make you feel something. I guess I'm quite serious when it comes to music.

Have you heard of any of these composers before? Who are your favourite musicians?

Debenhams.com Review & UD Naked Palette

Remember how I mentioned a few posts back that I'd ordered the UD Naked Palette? I saw Debenhams selling it online for £28.80 and jumped at the chance of getting it for a bit cheaper, without having to pay for postage. I ordered the palette on Friday night (13th), and it arrived yesterday morning (Wednesday 18th). The website states that UK standard delivery takes around 4 working days. Mine technically arrived in three days *approves*

It came in quite a big plastic Debenhams packaging which reminded me of the resealable ASOS packaging. I was quite surprised at the size of it because it seemed quite bulky and I'd only ordered one thing. I opened the plastic and found..

I opened up the perfumes samples first.

I don't really know how to describe perfumes :/ I never understood how they could advertise perfumes on TV either :/ Surely you have to smell a perfume to know if you'll like it or not? I'm more of a musky perfume person - my favourite is Hugo Boss Deep Red, for reference.

To me, the DKNY sample smells quite sweet, citrussy, fresh and clean. I found this description online:
'DKNY WOMEN centers on Energizing, Intoxicating and Sensual accords. A blend of blood orange and chilled vodka, water lilies and white birch. As modern and timeless as New York City.'
I personally don't like the smell of this :/

The Marc Jacobs Bang.. I read the description on the back before I took a sniff, and it said 'Bang is peppery, woody, spicy', so I was already expecting not to like it. I actually choked and started coughing after I smelt it.. it smells so over powering and reminds me of some Chinese medicine I once had to take LOL. I would ban my boyfriend from wearing this HAHA

I was seriously impressed at the way that Debenhams had made sure my palette would arrive to me in perfect condition. I was worried when I made the purchase that the shadows would smash on their way here, but just looking at the way they'd wrapped it, I was convinced it would be okay (hence the perfume sniffing over palette loving).

They wrapped my palette caringly in three layers of bubble wrap, a huge A3 size J bubble wrapped interior envelope, and their Debenhams plastic packaging. For this reason, I am super loving Debenhams.com. I really don't know why I haven't ordered from them before.

I'm also loving the perfume samples they sent. Even though I didn't like the first two, the fact that they even included any was sweet of them. Plus, they sent me five! I feel like they actually care for me rather than just giving me what I asked for and sending me away XD Good marketing skills Debenhams!

Look how cute these Lacoste samples are! I like how it comes in a mini bottle rather than just on a piece of card. My favourite out of the three is the Blue one!! Such a musky man smell hahaa the White one reminds me more of fresh deodorant, and the Green one smells like a mix of citrus and flowers. I wonder if they have a female version of the Blue one? I would so wear it if it was unisex. Would it be weird for me to wear a male perfume? XD

Overall, I am extremely happy with my Debenhams.com purchase and would definitely reorder with them. I usually like to be able to check items over before I buy things, so usually shop in store, but Debenhams have shown so much care in making sure my purchase arrived on time and in good condition, that I would purchase make up from them again with no hesitation.

And now, onto my actual purchase! (Sorry it took so long to get here >< I always ramble).

I'm really looking forward to trying out the matte shadows, because I own hardly any. I like the fact that I can try out so many different colours for an okay-ish price. I'll admit that I did feel bad after buying it because I do believe that ~£30 is a lot to spend on eye shadow, but I'm hoping I'll get maximum use out of this. Especially as they're all neutrals and are so usable for every day.

I don't know if I would use Dark Horse, Hustle, or Creep because they seem a bit too dark :/ but I guess I'll have to experiment and see.. I tend to stick to safer colours that I know will work.

This was the best (and first) birthday present I have ever bought for myself! I'm looking forward to experimenting with these pigmented shadows that I've heard so many good things about. I'll definitely wear it on the day of my birthday (and my last exam *cry*).

I will have to post swatches and stuff another time.. I need to get down to some revision! Hope you enjoyed this long and seemingly never ending post!

Priscilla, Xx

P.S. Now my room smells of man.

Have you ever shopped at Debenhams.com? Did you have a good experience with them?
